I forgot to say - I like your idea about using such bags as a sink. Also really appreciated the link to that book about wilderness medicine.

Great blog, lots of good info - thanks!

The Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest foam pad (reg. size) is lighter and has a higher R-value (thicker) than the Z-Rest. I am going to try it out. The only drawback I can imagine is if water got in between the ridges it would be hard to dry it.

On one of your other posts, I noticed you were looking for a waterproof bag big enough to fit your foot in. I am not sure how long your foot is, but Granite Gear makes a "water-resistant" bag under 2 oz that is 8" x 13". They also have a 7"x11" and a 9.5"x6" one.

They say it is water resistant but someone left a review saying the following:

"I've submersed these bagsfi with rolls of paper towels and they stayed bone dry.GG says that their only water resistant because some seams are not completely sealed(I've silseamed mine) are still one of the best bags out there.I like the bath tub design with a strap on the zip close position so you can hang it and unzip it half way to retrieve stuff wiyhout everything falling out"

Seems promising enough.
