My most exciting bear encounter.

I’ve seen lots of bears this year. They have all run away when they see me until about 2 weeks ago when a bear came charging through the bushes at me. It was charging me from the side, like it was trying to blind side me. I yelled at it, it stopped and then started charging me again. I yelled at it, picked up branches, started waving them around while backing down the trail. It changed directions and started coming after me again. I kept yelling, and throwing branches around and swinging branches at it. It stopped, looked at me for awhile, and then left.

  1. I didn’t see any cubs or carcass. It happened by Willamette Pass, where lots of runners were training for a 100k run on the PCT. I’m not sure what was going on in that bear’s head but it was a good reminder that I may not be as high up on the food change as I act.

It was a black bear but it was brown in color. When I first saw it coming through the bushes at me, I thought it was a mountain lion because it was the same color as a mountain lion and I had seen two mountain lions in the past weeks.
