Hey from Lone Pine (mile745)

The trail has been hot and ridiculously dry.  We are humans not camels.

I made it in and out of Kennedy Meadows in just over an hour.  That’s a record for me.   I planned it that way because I was afraid that the herd would be there, but all was tranquil and I wished I could have stayed loner.

I hiked down trail pass last night and caught a ride in to Lone Pine from 2005 hiker, Apple, this morning.

Hitching has been really hard lately.  I don’t know how I’ll get out of this town.   I have the phone number of a guy who will give me a ride for 40 dollars.

I’m thinking, buying a new shirt might help me get a ride.  My current shirt is a torn and stained once white eco-mesh Rail Riders shirt with not one useful pocket on it.

To get in and out of Tehachapi, I tried to hitch in the blazing sun till the police came by and gave me a ride–that happened both ways.

I better go now and finish up my town chores.

Hey from Hiker Town mile 518

The guy at Hiker Town let me take a shower and wash my clothes.   Now I’m using his computer.   I’m grateful for a place to sit out the hot time of day before I head out on the LA aqua duct.  The trail is hot and waterless but  lots of pretty flowers.    There is another hiker here who also is hiking this trail for the 3rd time.

I’ve been doing great staying out of towns.

My feet are doing better.

  • Hey from somewhere around 480 miles. #
  • I should be hiking but I want to go to sleep. #
  • I’m up high. There are lots of lights below me–LA sprawl, I think. #
  • I’m too sleepy. Good night. #
  • This morning I believe I was awaken by the voice of a mountain lion and it’s that belief that got me hiking by 3am. #
  • I have been searching for a siesta spot since 10:30 but the flies won’t let me sleep. #

  • I’m not really into hiking tonight. I think I would like to put up my tent, take two benedryls and call it a day. #
  • It’s a pretty morning with sunshine and lots of birds. I’m so happy I got out of town even if I didn’t do a lot of miles. #
  • Time to get hiking after a long sleep. #
  • If you mix Cal-Mag Fiz with your electorate-protein drink it will make a fizzing exploding baking soda bomb. Not recommend. #
  • There was still some snow on Baden-Powell to navigate around. I think I’m out of all the snow now until the Sierras. #

  • Hey from Wrightwood–mile 369.5 #
  • I got new socks; my feet are thrilled. #
  • I’m really dirty. It’s really windy. I’m melting. It would be so easy to stay; I must be strong. #
  • Again I’m in town durring my siesta time. I’m so sleepy I can’t think. #
  • The forecast is calling for 50 mile an hour winds. #
  • I think the crack in my lip is infected. Some hot water and soap would do it some good. #

  • It’s too early to quit but the sunset is too beautiful to pass up so I’m taking a sunset break. #
  • For hiking two hours last night and all day today, I have only gained 15 trail miles because of the stupid reroute #
  • It was a hard and fustrating day but I’m feeling better now. #
  • All day I have had motor bikes and buggies dusting me. I’m glad to be back on the PCT. #

  • My feet are burning. #
  • I made it in to Big Bear. It was a hard hitch I think because there was another hiker with me. #
  • Eating chicken and drinking oj. Then a quick resupply and back to the trail. #
  • I finally made it out of Big Bear. I got a pity ride from a nice couple who weren’t going my way but took me any way #
  • Never have so many cars passed by my smiling face and out stretched thumb. I hope I’m not losing my touch. #
  • Sitting on a ridge eating cookies and sugar peas. It’s my reward for getting out of Big Bear. #
  • How often do you find yourself on a high ridge, in the shade, with a good view, and big rock to elevate your feet on? So nice. , #
  • No more laying around on mountaintops, time to get hiking. #

  • Sitting on the trail looking down on the city lights. I’m in my bag but I’m telling myself that this is just a break. #
  • I think I should hike on and find a better spot. Last time I slept by sharp rocks I woke to 850 fill down flying around me. #
  • At 4 o’clock I could see where I wanted to be. It’s now 11:30 and I still haven’t got there. An insane person designed this section. #
  • Goodnight from a few miles short of where I thought I’d be. #

  • Longest’, toughest day ever, but I made it to Idllywild– mile 178.6 plus 5 mile walk to town. #
  • My feet have something to say: why? #
  • I think I’ll just eat something out of my food bag tonight so I don’t have use my feet. #
  • It would be so easy to get sucked in to this town–must resist. . #
  • After the wind blew the mist away and the thick ice quit falling from the trees, it turned out to be a pleasant day, yesterday. #
  • There was still some snow left up high but nothing dangerous. #
  • Goal for today: pry myself out of town. #
  • Either I spend the day laying around, watching TV, soaking in a hot bath and eating yogurt and blueberries or I hike. So hard. #
  • Help! I’m being sucked in to a town stop. #
  • Okay it’s official, no hiking today. I’ll hit it hard tomorrow. So lazy #
  • I have one foot on a frozen bag of blueberries and the other one on a bag of frozen raspberries. #

  • Guess who was given a pair of reading glasses from a nice couple at the Paradise cafe. They also gave me a ride back to the trail. #
  • So, I’m in the mountains on the section of trail that was closed because of a fire but now I think it’s open. #
  • The weather is still cold to pleasant. There are some big scary clouds though. Should be in Idyllwild tomorrow. . #
  • This trail is a completely different experience when it’s cold, windy, and wet. #
  • I stopped early tonight because of the big low dark cloud over me. Plus my feet needed rubbing. #
  • I’m sitting on a mountain top and finally it’s warm. it’s going to be hard to move. #
