  • I’m somewhere around mile 1461. It’s hot but I’m laying in the shade and there is a nice breeze. #
  • Last year when I came through here, the berries where ripe I’m a week later this year and the berries are still green and there is still … #
  • I have seen about 100 trail workers in the last 20 miles. They are boy scouts and they say there are 500 of them out here. #

  • I may have over done it in the fresh food department. #
  • Sitting on the side of the street, trying to get a ride. I can’t stand the rejection. #
  • I was just sitting there, twittering away and a guy pulls up and gives me a ride to the trail. #
  • At 9:30 am I was at mile 1235. Now thanks to the magical portal, I’m at 1335. #
  • Laying on the trail eating cherries and drinking Odwall Superfood juice #
  • I think just making it out of town is good. I didn’t even stop to take a shower. And my last shower was over 2 weeks ago. #
  • Last night I slept without a tent and I was awaken by a big brown spider on my head. #
  • So tonight I have my tent up. #
  • Trying to consume 2 lbs of yogurt, 5lbs of superfood juice, and 2lbs of cherries, so my pack will be lighter. #
  • Laying in the shade eating lunch, because all this food is not going to eat it self. #
  • I love this section of trail. #

  • I’m walking towards the fires. #
  • I’m in Quincy waiting for the bus to Chester. #
  • The trail was closed due to fires at mile 1235. It took me 3 hours to get a hitch from there. #
  • I was planning to do a long hot smoky road walk around the fires but I lost my resolve. #
  • Good news is, I’m back on schedule #
  • The other day I saw a bird with a bright orange head, a bright yellow body, and black wings. #
  • I also saw a bear that was black and brown. It was crossing the road where the PCT crossed near Sierra City. #
  • There is lots of traffic and no shoulder on this road. I’m glad I’m on the bus. #
  • Yea! I found a resturant in Chester that always serves breakfast. #

  • Sitting on the crest having dinner break. #
  • The view can’t be beat but if I don’t keep hiking I won’t even make Sierra City by dinner time tomorrow. #
  • I don’t want to give up this view for a few more miles. #
  • The sun is a neon ball that is sinking into a thick smoke cloud #
  • It”s gone. #
  • There is a big smoke plune to the south. #
  • I think I’m going to stay. #

  • I’m perched on the crest tonight. Smoky orange sky. #
  • Laying in the shade drinking water–I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. #
  • You know what would be cool? Some way to hike recumbently, for when your feet get tired. #
  • There was a resturant at Donner Pass, I was hoping to get breakfast at this morning but it wasn’t open. #
  • If I quit laying in the shade and get hiking I may be able to make breakfast in Sierra City tomorrow. #

  • Hey from mile 1127. It’s really smoky. Rumor is there is a fire up ahead. #
  • The trail has been really crowded with day hikers and section hikers and lots of dogs. #
  • I saw two golden bears a couple of hours ago. I started singing and they looked up at me and then ran away. #
  • Someone told me that the PCT may be closed up ahead because of fire. I guess i’ll keep hiking until I see a closed sign. #
  • Very red sunrise this morning. #
  • If I had a hot beverage and lots of time I would watch it for awhile longer. But no stove or time. Better get hiking. #
  • NPR news is obsessed with war and suicide bombers, year after year. #
  • I want “Car Talk” and “this American Life”. #

  • Hey from a “sagebrush saddle”. It’s windy but the view is great, so I think I spend the night here. #
  • Yesterday, future PCT thru-hiker, Jeff, was serving food and beverages to hikers at Sonora Pass. That was a nice treat. #
  • Tomorrow, at Carson Pass there is a thru-hiker BBQ, I heard. I should be able to make it. #
  • I have been dragging lately. I think it may be because I didn’t send myself any ginko in my last package. #
  • Soon I’ll be at Echo Lake where I have more ginko in my box. Then I will be hiking better, I hope. #
  • It’s really windy up here. I probably should have hiked down off the crest. But the view’s the thing. #
  • I slept here last time too. It was windy then. #
  • There are still patches of snow on the trail. I want to be done with the snow. #
  • I hope the BBQ will be enough motivation to get me down the trail tomorrow. #
  • Time to try to get some sleep while these crazy wind gust blow around me. Goodnight. #

  • Hey from Tuolumne Meadows–mile 941. Long day to get here. It’s dark and I can’t find the backpacker’s site. #
  • I’m laying in a vacant site I found. #
  • The Sierras have been tedious and tiresome. #
  • On Forester Pass I lost my shoe when I postholed but I managed to dig it out. #
  • I almost lost my shoe in the deep mud today. #
  • I don’t think the Sierra’s are worth the effort, this time of year. Maybe if that is all you were doing. #
  • I’m not really in to all this “potentially fatal” stuff. Most of it is behind me now. . #
  • I hiked from 5am till 9:30pm and only took 1 hour total in breaks. #
  • I have been seeing more hikers lately. #
  • I better go to sleep now. Goodnight. #

  • Waiting for the Tuolumne Meadows store and grill to open. It’s a big tent. #
  • I have eaten lots of fresh cherries and drank 3 Odwalla superfood drinks. #
  • They gave me my package even though it’s Sunday. I’m ready to go. #

  • I have finished shopping for my resupply. I’m carrying 14,260 calories for the next 150 mile section #
  • It all fits in my bear canister. #
  • For a zero day I have walked a lot. Town stops aren’t very relaxing. #
  • I had a dream where a tree said it wanted to talk to me but I couldn’t stop because I had more miles to hike. #
  • Then I thought, “Hey, how many times do you meet a talking tree? Maybe you’re too into the miles”. #
  • But then the next morning I thought,”You better get some extra miles in, so in case you meet a talking tree you will have time to stop a … #
  • You know how much 10 tortillas cost in this town? 5.79. I think driving may be cheaper than walking. #
  • I’m all packed up. My pack is big and doesn’t look like a neat little package. #
  • Once my resupply box was opened and my pack emptied, the motel room was crowded with stuff. Now everything is packed away. #
  • I’m waiting for the post office to open so I can mail my bounce box along. Town stops eat up so much time. #
  • It’s getting really hot. I’m not to excited about today. #
  • I wish I could figure out a good way to hike without having to get anything in the mail. #
  • I feel sick but once I get back on the trail, I know I’ll feel fine. #
  • Okay, everything is mailed. Now to pick up that beast of a pack and try to hitch back to the trail. Hope my new shirt helps. #
  • Standing in the hot sun waiting for a ride. #
  • I found some bi-focal sunglasses. Now I can read a map without changing glasses. #

  • Hey from Lone Pine(mile745). #
  • I’m laying in a motel eating fruit. My clothes are in the wash and I have retreived my stuff from the post office. #
  • I need to keep working to get my town chores done but I’m feeling the town melt and getting sleepy. #
  • I have been moving all day. If this were a hiking day I would have got a lot of miles in. #
  • My clothes have been resoaked in permethrin–renewing my cone of death. #
  • I have packaged my backpack up and have it ready to mail off for repair and I have received my other pack in the mail. #
  • I have bought a new lavender Mountain Hardwear canyon shirt in hopes that my new improved look will attract a ride back to the trailhead. #
  • I’m tired. I’ll get out tomorrow but probably not first thing tomorrow. #
  • I had just done enough. 30 mile days to pay off that zero day I took in Idywilld and now I’m behind again. #
