Trail Twitter

  • Sitting next to a ORV trail, watching the sun set through power transformers, listening to traffic. #
  • While thinking about the 40 some mile road walk I start tomorrow. #
  • And the other road walk ahead of that, #
  • Where Billy Goat was shot at, 2 packs stolen, and a hiker got bit by a pit bull. #
  • Thinking I don’t want to be here. #
  • Maybe I’ll feel better in the morning. #
  • Last night I answered back to some coyotes and then realized it was domestic dogs. #
  • Then a round of gun fire went off. #
  • This morning I see my crack house neighbor. parked on the next hill. #
  • There were helicopters flying over all night long. #
  • You know what’s great about the SoCal section of the PCT? #
  • It leads somewhere better. #
  • It’s not the same when it dead ends into an old iron fence. #
  • My attitude hasn’t improved much since last night. #
  • Laying on a hill. I don’t want to get up. #
  • But I’m out of water, so, I should. #
  • On my way home. Goodbye PCT, see you next year. #

  1. Did you quit because of the detour through the desert? It sounds kind of awful. I might have found a way around it so I could enjoy the rest of So Cal. But by now you were probably wanting to go back home.

  2. Well, the main reason I quit was I was sick and it was really hard to get myself to hike.

I used to say I liked SoCal but it was probably because I knew it was leading somewhere better. Going south I realized SoCal is not very nice: the roads, the raves, the power lines, wind farms, dams, graffiti covered rocks, aquaduct, and all the other encroachment makes for a really ugly trail. The detours made it that much worst.

Yeah it was time to go home. That’s the great thing about a section hike: you can quit anytime you want. I love section hiking and I love going south.

  3. I have really enjoyed reading about your adventures on the trail. Wish I could have done that but I don’t regret raising my children, then grand children. I pray you are doing well and are okay. It has been a long time since I have seen any posts from you.
